Harishchandragad is known as the Mecca for trekkers. Its height above the mean sea level is 4671 ft. In order to get here from Mumbai you have to get down by train to Kalyan railway station. From here you have to catch an ST( state transport service) from the bus depo which is just outside the station. Ask the conductor whether the bus will take you to Khubi Phata. After getting down at Khubi phata there is about a 4 km long walk which will take you to Khireshwar village. From Khireshwar there is a route which will take you through a pass( known as Tolar khind) towards Harishchandragad. The entire climb will take about 4-5 hours after getting down at Khubi. To visit the entire place you should spare at least 2 days. If you get a guide( Vatadya) it will be helpful as although there are arrows pointing the way, some of them take you to different villages. Getting lost if going for the first time is quite likely. Another thing you should keep in mind is while coming back make sure you reach Khubi phata as long as there is sun light. Later there are hardly any vehicles which will stop by to give you a lift, and the ones that do you will be suspicious about.
